Dubai Municipality has successfully established integrated community markets designed to support the workforce in Muhaisnah 2, Al Quoz Industrial Area 3, and Al Quoz 4. These facilities, spanning over 69,000 square metres, are strategically located near worker accommodations to provide organized, safe, and accessible environments for daily needs, recreational activities, and essential services.
The three operational markets feature a combined total of 866 kiosks and stalls. These spaces offer eight distinct service categories, including fruit and vegetable outlets, meat and fish shops, food kiosks, consumer goods, barber shops, tailoring services, sports facilities, and dedicated zones for health awareness and community engagement.
Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, stated that the development of these markets underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life for workers. By placing these services in close proximity to residential areas, the initiative promotes public health, food safety, and community integration.
The impact of this infrastructure project has been significant, benefiting more than 640,000 workers with a reported 99 percent satisfaction rate. The initiative has also facilitated 69 community events that drew over 800,000 attendees, alongside 16 specialized awareness workshops on topics such as first aid, public health, food safety, and emergency preparedness, which reached more than 16,500 workers.
Looking ahead, a fourth market is planned for development in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1. The project has already gained international recognition, securing the British Safety Council Award in Category A, and serves as a scalable model for community infrastructure across the UAE. Dubai Municipality continues to collaborate with the private sector to manage these markets under strict regulatory frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance with safety and sustainability standards.
