Following a pivotal second week of the college football season, a new leader has emerged in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Texas has secured the No. 1 position, receiving 42 of 74 first-place votes from panelists. This marks the first time the Longhorns have held the top spot since they were displaced by Ohio State last year, a position they reclaimed after successfully rallying to defeat the Buckeyes, who have now slid to sixth.
Georgia remains firmly at No. 2 following a dominant second victory, earning 15 first-place votes, while Notre Dame moves up to No. 3 with four top nods. Defending national champion Indiana climbed to No. 4, maintaining 10 first-place votes, and Miami (Fla.) completes the top five with two top-ranked ballots. LSU secured the final remaining first-place vote and rose in the standings ahead of their upcoming high-stakes matchup against No. 9 Mississippi. Texas A&M returned to the No. 8 spot, while Alabama made its first appearance in the top 10 this season.
Movement occurred throughout the remainder of the rankings, with Brigham Young rising to No. 14, trailing only Texas Tech as the highest-ranked team from the Big 12. Oregon experienced a significant 12-spot drop to No. 18 after falling to Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma plummeted 11 positions to No. 21 following a loss at Michigan, which subsequently climbed back to No. 19.
Washington barely maintained its position at No. 24, slipping five spots after a narrow win over Utah State. While no new programs entered the Top 25 this week, the rankings saw one departure. Florida, which had been tied with Virginia for 25th place, fell out of the poll after losing ground in the latest ballot shuffle, now leading the teams currently receiving votes outside of the Top 25. The report also notes that retaining 10 firsts, defending champion Indiana also gains a spot to No.4.
