Security has been significantly reinforced across Dhaka and the entire country in anticipation of the July Uprising Day 2026, scheduled for this Wednesday. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) announced that they have intensified intelligence gathering, physical patrols, and cyber monitoring to prevent any potential sabotage or untoward incidents during the commemorations.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, RAB’s Legal and Media Wing confirmed that comprehensive security protocols have been established in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, intelligence branches, and local administrations. Each battalion has conducted a thorough risk assessment of its respective area to develop tailored security plans and enhance proactive information collection.
Special security measures were implemented starting on the night of August 4 at event venues, designated routes for road marches and processions, and at various July memorial monuments. RAB personnel will be deployed both in uniform and plainclothes to maintain vigilance, working closely with local authorities to ensure public safety.
RAB stated that preventive measures are in place to counter any activities by extremist groups, banned organizations, or anti-state elements. Beyond physical security at memorial sites and event locations, the force has increased its cyber monitoring efforts to curb the spread of rumors and propaganda on social media platforms.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has also adopted a multi-dimensional security strategy to maintain order and protect citizens in the capital. This includes the deployment of additional police forces, the strengthening of checkpoints, and the readiness of specialized units to respond to any potential threats.
According to a DMP statement on Tuesday, security operations will be particularly stringent at all entry points to the capital. Members of the Detective Branch (DB) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit will be stationed in plainclothes at key venues. High-traffic areas will be subject to specialized searches conducted by SWAT teams, bomb disposal units, and dog squads, while CCTV and drone surveillance will cover all event sites and memorial areas.
To handle emergencies, the DMP has prepared multiple Quick Response Teams (QRT). The police will also coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and RAB to monitor the overall security situation, with senior officers overseeing operations directly from the field.
These heightened measures follow a nationwide alert issued by Police Headquarters last Saturday, warning that police vehicles—including jeeps, pickups, and buses—could be targeted. Units have been instructed to exercise maximum caution, ensure safe parking for government vehicles, and increase surveillance at police stations, barracks, and office compounds to identify suspicious individuals or objects.
The heightened alert follows a series of recent security scares. On July 24, a bomb was recovered from inside an umbrella at the Motijheel Metro Station. Subsequently, on Saturday, suspicious bags and items were reported at the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations. Although DMP bomb disposal units later confirmed these items contained no explosives, the incidents prompted the current directive for increased vigilance across all law enforcement sectors.
