Datuk Abdah Alif, a legendary figure in Malaysian football, has embarked on a new personal chapter by marrying at the age of 72. The wedding, which took place on August 27, has generated widespread interest among sports fans following the circulation of photographs on social media featuring the former athlete and his partner, who is reportedly 20 years old.
The news was officially confirmed by his younger brother, Datuk Yunus Alif, himself a former national player and coach. Yunus emphasized that the union has the full support and blessing of both families. “Alhamdulillah, they got married on Aug. 27. Both families have agreed to and blessed this marriage. We pray that the two of them will be happy,” he stated.
Addressing the public interest, Yunus noted that his brother is currently unavailable for comment as he is likely enjoying time with his new wife. “They might be on their honeymoon now, which is why he is not answering calls. What is certain is that they are indeed married, and we wish them both the very best,” he added, expressing his hope that the couple would “continue to be happy and stay together until Jannah.”
Abdah is best remembered for his pivotal role during the golden era of Malaysian football in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was a key member of the national squad that earned a merit-based qualification for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, a feat achieved after a dramatic 2-1 victory against South Korea in a decisive qualifying match.
During that celebrated period, he played alongside esteemed teammates such as Datuk Soh Chin Aun, Datuk Santokh Singh, and Datuk Jamal Nasir Ismail. Despite their success, the team’s Olympic aspirations were ultimately thwarted when Malaysia participated in the international boycott of the 1980 Moscow Games, held in protest of the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan.
More than four decades have passed since his professional football career concluded, and while he has largely remained out of the public eye, this recent development has brought the veteran player back into the national spotlight.
