Milo Yiannopoulos, a far-right commentator known for his inflammatory rhetoric, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to Department of Homeland Security officials, the United Kingdom native was apprehended on August 27 at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Authorities state that Yiannopoulos had been ordered to depart the country after overstaying a visa that dates back to 2019.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security remarked on the situation, stating, “He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.” Records indicate that an immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for his scheduled immigration hearing. He is currently being held in ICE custody while awaiting removal proceedings.
The arrest occurred as Yiannopoulos was in Louisiana to attend an August 28 concert featuring the artist formerly known as Kanye West. Yiannopoulos has maintained a professional relationship with the rapper since 2022 and previously served as his campaign manager during the 2024 presidential election cycle. His detention was initially noted in online immigration records and subsequently reported by various news outlets.
Yiannopoulos rose to public attention as a right-wing provocateur, writing for Breitbart News and hosting controversial university campus tours where he frequently attacked feminism, Islam, the Black Lives Matter movement, and transgender rights. His current detention stands in stark contrast to his past political advocacy; as recently as June 2025, he publicly championed the expansion of ICE operations. In a post on the platform X, where he uses the handle Nero, he argued that California should implement checkpoints at locations such as gas stations and supermarkets to facilitate “on the spot” deportations for anyone unable to prove their legal status in the United States.
