Nineteen-year-old British cyclist Finlay Tarling has died following a fatal crash during the eighth stage of the Tour of Portugal. Race organizers and his team, the NSN Development Team, confirmed the tragedy occurred on Friday during the route between Melgaco and Fafe.
According to reports from the Portuguese broadcaster RTP, the incident involved a head-on collision between the athlete and a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction that was not associated with the race. Officials described the event as a “serious accident,” which led to the immediate suspension of the stage with approximately 20 kilometres, or 12 miles, remaining.
