Sharjah Launches Water Conservation Drive Targeting 2,000 Homes in Mughaider

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has officially commenced a water conservation program within the Mughaider suburb, targeting approximately 2,000 Emirati households. This initiative involves the professional installation of specialized water-saving tools and devices designed to optimize domestic consumption across the region.

This latest phase builds upon the success of a similar project in the Al Rahmaniyah suburb, where SEWA installed over 14,000 conservation devices across 4,000 homes. According to agency data, these efforts have already yielded significant results, successfully reducing water usage by as much as 59 percent in the participating areas. Majid Haremel Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Institutional Support at SEWA, confirmed that work is currently underway to finalize installations in the remaining homes within the Mughaider suburb.

The broader strategy, aligned with the vision and directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is highly ambitious. SEWA aims to install more than 750,000 water-saving devices across over 45,000 homes throughout the various cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah. To ensure these targets are met, the authority has deployed 12 specialized technical teams equipped with the necessary machinery and tools to carry out the installations efficiently.

Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of the Media and Communication Department at SEWA, outlined a comprehensive eight-point operational framework to guide the project. This strategy includes establishing a verified database of target homes, allocating specific budgets, creating rigorous implementation schedules, and assigning tasks to qualified technical personnel. The process also involves direct coordination with homeowners to secure inspection approvals, conducting post-installation surveys to gauge customer satisfaction, and performing final evaluations to quantify total water savings.

Beyond direct installation, SEWA is actively promoting a culture of sustainability through public outreach. The authority has established mobile platforms in local shopping centers and is utilizing various media channels to educate residents on effective water management. These efforts focus on teaching proper conservation techniques, the correct use of new devices, and the importance of routine maintenance to ensure long-term efficiency.

Al Marzouqi has urged citizens to cooperate fully with the visiting technical teams when contacted for free installations. He further emphasized the importance of individual responsibility, encouraging residents to proactively repair any household leaks and adopt water-conscious habits in their daily routines. He noted that preserving water is both a national and religious duty, serving as a vital lifeline for the community. The report also notes that rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of the Media and Communication Department at SEWA, explained that the specialised technical teams provided by SEWA, numbering up to 12, in addition to the necessary equipment, tools, and mach.
