Oman to Develop Four New Industrial Cities Under 2026-2030 Strategic Plan

Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, known as Madayn, has unveiled plans to establish four new industrial cities across the Sultanate. These projects form a core component of the nation’s five-year development strategy spanning 2026 to 2030, aimed at decentralizing industrial investment and extending economic activity beyond current hubs.

The upcoming industrial zones will be strategically located in Al Suwaiq in North Al Batinah, Al Mudhaibi in North Al Sharqiyah, Thumrait in the Dhofar governorate, and Mudhaffar in Musandam. Each site is intended to serve as a catalyst for regional development, aligning with the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040 to accelerate growth across all governorates and foster sustainable urban environments.

Khalid bin Sulaiman Al Salehi, Madayn’s General Manager of Marketing and Commercial Affairs and official spokesperson, emphasized that the initiative is designed to bolster the national investment climate. He noted that these developments are essential for supporting long-term, sustainable economic expansion throughout the country.

To ensure these cities are competitive, Madayn plans to equip them with modern infrastructure and integrated logistics services. The organization evaluates several criteria before finalizing a location, focusing on how each site can contribute to balanced geographical development and enhance the unique economic advantages inherent to each specific governorate.

Beyond infrastructure, the expansion is intended to increase private-sector participation in the economy. By creating these hubs, the government aims to build a more attractive labor market for both Omani nationals and specialized international talent, thereby diversifying the workforce.

Sustainability remains a central pillar of the project. Madayn has stated that its development strategy prioritizes the responsible use of natural resources, ensuring that as Oman broadens its economic base, it does so through the creation of environmentally conscious and highly competitive industrial centers.

This industrial push coincides with several other major economic milestones in the Sultanate, including the launch of Dh5.3 billion mountain projects in Muscat and the signing of $500 million worth of exploration and mining agreements. These developments collectively reflect Oman’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its downstream manufacturing and resource sectors.

The projects support the economic and development priorities of Oman Vision 2040, particularly efforts to accelerate development across the governorates, promote sustainable cities and strengthen economic diversification
