Nick Reiner has been formally indicted in connection with the fatal stabbing of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman addressed the indictment in a formal statement, describing the event as “a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing.” In addition to the new lying in wait allegation, prosecutors have noted an assertion that Reiner “personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife,” during the incident.
Expressing hope for the legal process, Hochman stated that the grand jury’s indictment serves as a step toward trial and achieving justice. The investigation into the deaths began after the bodies of the 78-year-old director and his 70-year-old wife were discovered at their Brentwood, California, residence on December 14. Preliminary findings from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner indicated that both victims died from multiple sharp force injuries. Death certificates recorded their times of death as 3:45 p.m. and 3:46 p.m., respectively.
Beyond the criminal proceedings, Reiner is involved in a separate legal matter concerning his trust fund. In June, he filed a petition seeking access to these assets, claiming he was denied funds he was entitled to receive upon turning 30. Reiner stated in court documents that he lacks the financial means to pay for legal counsel or basic necessities while in custody.
This financial dispute followed the withdrawal of his defense attorney, Alan Jackson, who cited “circumstances beyond his control.” Jackson noted in a declaration that his firm remains prepared to resume representation if the necessary funds become available. The trust fund case is scheduled for a hearing later this month, while the murder case is slated for further proceedings in September.
