The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has distributed more than 1.25 billion gallons of water to support strategic government initiatives and food security projects across the emirate during the first half of 2026. This effort aligns with the authority’s broader commitment to sustainability and the optimization of water efficiency to meet long-term development goals.
Engineer Abdurrahman Bukhalaf, Director of the Water Plants and Desalination Department at SEWA, confirmed that the water supply was directed toward critical infrastructure, including the Mleiha wheat farms, local dairy and poultry facilities, and the Sharjah Safari project. Specifically, the wheat farms received 1,029,990,940 gallons, while the dairy and poultry sectors were supplied with 151,429,300 gallons and 10,716,640 gallons, respectively. These allocations are intended to bolster local production and strengthen the emirate’s food security framework.
In addition to agricultural support, SEWA provided 34,072,720 gallons to the Sharjah Safari project. Bukhalaf noted that this allocation reflects the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to prioritize environmental protection and natural life conservation, cementing the site’s status as a premier eco-tourism destination. By delivering advanced water infrastructure, the authority ensures that both crop irrigation and livestock needs are met according to rigorous quality and sustainability standards.
Bukhalaf emphasized that these operations are guided by the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to foster self-sufficiency in agricultural and livestock production.
