The beloved Filipino group SB Girls has arrived in Abu Dhabi, opening up about the deep-rooted bond that has kept them together through decades of change. What began as a simple, casual reunion among friends has evolved into one of the most significant comeback stories in the history of Filipino pop music, culminating in a landmark performance in the United Arab Emirates.
Ahead of their highly anticipated “Get Get Aw” concert at the Etihad Arena, the members gathered on August 6 at the Bab Al Qasr Hotel for a press conference. During the event, they reflected on their journey back to the spotlight and teased fresh surprises for their dedicated UAE fanbase. This performance marks a historic milestone for Filipino entertainment within the Emirates.
Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Alfonso Ver, highlighted the significance of the event during his remarks. “We are so proud that for the first time a Filipino group will perform in Etihad Arena. We look forward to the support of the Filipino community,” he stated, emphasizing the cultural importance of the show.
The press conference featured 18 members of the group: Aiza Buraga, Cynthia Yapchiongco, Sunshine Garcia-Castro, Mia Pangyarihan, Monique Icban-Diamante, Mae Acosta-Valdes, Mhyca Bautista, Sugar Mercado, Jacky Rivas, Cherry Rufo Panganiban, Shane Gonzales Ignacio, Jovel Palomo, Danielle Sheen Ramirez-Hartmann, Weng Ibarra, Grace Nera, Sandy Tolentino, Jopay Paguia, and group leader Rochelle Pangilinan-Solinap.
For the SB Girls, returning to the stage was never part of the original plan. When asked by how the reunion came to fruition, member Mhyca Bautista revealed that the group had initially only intended to reconnect as friends. “We only talked about having a reunion. We never expected it would bring us all the way to the UAE. Our love and sisterhood have only become stronger,” she shared.
That initial reunion has since blossomed into a series of successful concerts and a world tour, effectively reconnecting the group with fans who grew up dancing and singing to their hits in the early 2000s. More than two decades after first making waves in the Philippine music scene, the group believes its enduring appeal stems from music that transcends generations.
The members highlighted that their songs remain relevant because they are “timeless” and continue to resonate with audiences of all ages. Mia Pangyarihan noted that the group’s music has always maintained a strong connection with everyday Filipinos. “Our songs became memorable because they are for the masses. The dedication and passion of every member has always been 100 per cent,” she exclaimed.
During their stay, the members shared their impressions of the capital city. They have regarded Abu Dhabi as “very warm,” noting that the sentiment mirrors the hospitality of the people who have welcomed them. This reception from the local Filipino community has made their visit feel particularly meaningful.
Group leader Rochelle Pangilinan-Solinap reflected on the emotional journey behind the comeback, admitting that the members once doubted their own potential. “For a time, we lost confidence in ourselves. We never expected that we would now be going on a world tour. I have strong faith that the girls can go even further,” she recalled, reinforcing the theme of sisterhood that defines their return.
While longtime supporters can look forward to the nostalgia of classic hits, the group confirmed that the concert will offer fresh elements. Jopay Paguia promised audiences new production arrangements and hinted at future projects. “There are new things to look forward to, including new production arrangements, and we also have a new album coming,” she said.

Producers have indicated that details regarding a potential Dubai leg of the tour are expected to be revealed during the Abu Dhabi event, providing UAE audiences with even more reason to celebrate the group’s return.
